In July 2025, the company was promoted by Sumitomo Corporation and Isuzu Motors, which held 43.96% and 15% shareholding respectively. On 1st August 2025, Mahindra & Mahindra acquired a 58.96% stake, becoming the new promoter of the company. Following an open offer, Mahindra further increased its stake to 58.97%.
Seeing this strategic shift, the company was officially renamed SML Mahindra Limited with effect from 8th October 2025.
