Most buyers move up from the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LE because they want a more comfortable truck. Half that expectation gets met. The LS gives you power steering. It does not give you air conditioning, and no amount of dealer talk changes that. Here is what you are actually buying.
What the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LS Adds Over the LE
Ashok Leyland sells the Dost Strong in three trims: LE, LS and LX.
Against the Dost Strong LE you gain power steering and a tiltable steering column. Everything else carries over. Same 1,478cc engine, same 2,590 kg GVW, same 1,375 kg rated payload, same 8.2-foot deck, same day cabin, same D+1 seat.
Power steering reads like a small line on a spec sheet. It is not. A last-mile truck turns, reverses and parks a hundred times a shift, and manual steering at low speed under load is heavy work. It is a common reason drivers leave.
What the LS does not add is air conditioning. Ashok Leyland does not fit AC as standard on the LE or the LS. It appears on the Dost Strong LX.
Worth knowing: Ashok Leyland markets the Dost Strong as offering car-like comfort for 14 to 15 hour freight operations. That claim reads differently once you know two of the three trims have no air conditioning.
Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LS Engine, Braking and Performance
The 1,478cc three-cylinder TDCR diesel produces 59.1 hp at 3,300 rpm and 158 Nm between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. Ashok Leyland calls the tune i-GEN6.
You will see 70 hp and 170 Nm quoted for this truck across several listing sites. Those figures belong to the Dost+, a larger truck. Do not plan around them.
The gearbox is a fully synchromesh five-speed manual with a 215 mm single dry plate clutch. Top speed is capped at 80 km/h. Gradeability is 24.93 percent, so a loaded hill climb means second gear and patience.
Braking is vacuum-assisted hydraulic with a load-sensing proportioning valve, ventilated disc at the front and drum at the rear. The valve meters brake effort according to how heavily the truck is loaded, which is the right system for a vehicle that runs empty half the day. ABS is not fitted on any Dost Strong trim.
Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LS Payload
The specification sheet lists a kerb weight of 1,275 kg, a GVW of 2,590 kg and a payload of 1,375 kg.
Add the first and the third. You get 2,650 kg, which is 60 kg more than the GVW allows. The three numbers cannot all be right.
Ashok Leyland and most listing sites publish 1,375 kg. A few publish 1,350 kg, which resolves the arithmetic almost exactly. Before you plan loads or price a contract around 1,375 kg, read the figure printed on the registration certificate of the truck you are buying. Overloading gets measured against that document, not against a website.
The deck is 2,500 mm long, 1,620 mm wide and 440 mm high. That is 8.2 feet by 5.3 feet, with a sidewall of about 1.4 feet. Low enough to hand-load sacks and crates without a ramp.

Ashok Leyland claims 19.6 kmpl, rising to 20 to 22 kmpl on the highway. Owners running loaded through city traffic report figures in the mid to high teens. Plan around 16 to 17 kmpl for urban work.
The tank holds 40 litres, so a full fill covers roughly 650 km at that rate.
Ashok Leyland warrants the Dost Strong for five years or two lakh kilometres, which is unusually long at this price. The Dost platform has been in production since 2011, so spares are everywhere and rarely the reason a truck sits idle.
Owner feedback is consistent. The engine and gearbox draw few complaints. The cabin draws most of them: basic trim, poor summer ventilation, and less space than a Tata Intra offers.

Buy the LS if your drivers run city or semi-urban routes with heavy turning and you want to keep them. The step up from the Dost Strong LE buys the one feature that cuts fatigue most.
Buy the LX instead if shifts run past eight hours, because that is where the air conditioning lives. And if you need more payload for similar money, the Tata Intra V30 Gold carries 1,500 kg from around ₹8.23 lakh.
