About

The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX is the only Dost Strong you can buy with factory air conditioning. That is what the top trim gives you over the LE and the LS, and on a long shift it is the difference between a driver who stays and one who does not. Everything mechanical is shared with the cheaper trims. The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX price is around ₹8.00 to ₹8.40 lakh ex-showroom, with an estimated on-road cost of ₹8.9 lakh to ₹9.5 lakh. Its 1,478cc TDCR diesel makes 59.1 hp and 158 Nm. GVW is 2,590 kg, rated payload is 1,375 kg, and claimed mileage is 19.6 kmpl. There is no ABS and no tubeless tyre option.

Expert Review

Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX Review

The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX costs about ₹45,000 more than the base LE. For that money, you get one thing that matters and a couple that do not change at all. Whether it is worth it comes down to how long your drivers sit in the cab. Here is the honest version.

What the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX Adds Over the LE and LS

Ashok Leyland sells the Dost Strong in three trims. The LE has neither power steering nor air conditioning. The LS adds power steering. The LX, this truck, adds air conditioning on top.

That is the whole ladder. The engine, the 2,590 kg GVW, the 1,375 kg payload, the 8.2-foot deck, the braking and the suspension are identical across all three. You are not buying a more capable truck when you buy the LX. You are buying a more liveable cab.

The air conditioning is the headline, and it is genuinely worth having. A driver working a ten to twelve hour shift through a north Indian summer is a driver who wears out, makes mistakes and eventually leaves. AC is not a luxury on that duty cycle. It is a retention tool.

The LX also gets the digital instrument cluster, a mobile charging point, a lockable glove box and ELR seatbelts. Useful, not decisive.

Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX Engine and Braking

The 1,478cc three-cylinder TDCR diesel produces 59.1 hp at 3,300 rpm and 158 Nm between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. Ashok Leyland brands the technology i-GEN6.

You will see 70 hp and 170 Nm on several listing sites and, today, on this page itself. Those numbers belong to the Dost+, a larger truck. The LX does not make them. Plan your loads and gradients around 59 hp.

The gearbox is a fully synchromesh five-speed manual with a 215 mm single dry plate clutch. Top speed is 80 km/h and gradeability is 24.93 percent, so a fully loaded hill climb means second gear.

Braking is vacuum-assisted hydraulic with a load-sensing proportioning valve, ventilated disc front and drum rear. The valve adjusts braking force to how heavily the truck is loaded, which suits a vehicle that runs empty half its shift. ABS is not fitted on any Dost Strong trim, the LX included.

Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX Payload and Dimensions

The specification sheet lists a kerb weight of 1,275 kg, a GVW of 2,590 kg and a payload of 1,375 kg.

Add kerb and payload and you get 2,650 kg, 60 kg over the GVW. The three figures cannot all be correct. Ashok Leyland and most sources publish 1,375 kg; a few publish 1,350 kg, which balances the sum. Confirm the rated payload on the registration certificate before you plan contracts around 1,375 kg, because overloading is judged against that document.

The deck is 2,500 mm long, 1,620 mm wide and 440 mm high, which is 8.2 feet by 5.3 feet with a 1.4-foot sidewall. The truck is 4,485 mm long overall with a 5,850 mm turning radius, tight enough for lanes a larger pickup cannot enter.

Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX Mileage and Running Cost

Ashok Leyland claims 19.6 kmpl, with 20 to 22 kmpl on the highway. Loaded city running settles into the mid to high teens, so plan around 16 to 17 kmpl for urban work.

The AC changes this slightly. Running the compressor draws engine power, so an LX worked hard with the AC on will return marginally less than an LE on the same route. The gap is small, a fraction of a kilometre per litre, and for most operators the comfort is worth it.

The 40-litre tank gives roughly 650 km at realistic consumption. Warranty is five years or two lakh kilometres, long for the price. Dost spares have been everywhere since 2011, so parts rarely cause downtime.

Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX Price in 2026, On-Road Cost and Who Should Buy

The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX price is about ₹8.40 lakh ex-showroom, the top of the Dost Strong range, roughly ₹45,000 above the LE and ₹25,000 above the LS. Add road tax, registration, first-year commercial insurance, permit and fitness, and budget ₹55,000 to ₹1.1 lakh on top. That puts the estimated on-road price at ₹8.9 lakh to ₹9.5 lakh, higher in Maharashtra and Kerala than in Delhi or Haryana. On finance, ten percent down at 9.5 percent over five years works out near ₹15,900 a month.

Buy the LX if your drivers run long shifts, especially through summer. The air conditioning pays for itself in retention and alertness on that duty cycle, and no cheaper Dost Strong offers it.

Do not pay for the LX if your trucks run short urban routes with rotating drivers. On that pattern the Dost Strong LS gives you the same truck with power steering and no AC for ₹25,000 less, and the LE less still. And if you need more payload for the money, the Tata Intra V30 Gold carries 1,500 kg from around ₹8.23 lakh.

FAQ

FAQs about Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX

Dimensions

What are the overall dimensions of the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX?

+
The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX measures 4,485 mm in length, 1,670 mm in width and 1,845 mm in height, on a 2,350 mm wheelbase.

What is the load deck size and turning radius of the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX?

+
The load deck on the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX is 2,500 mm long, 1,620 mm wide and 440 mm high, which is 8.2 by 5.3 feet. The turning radius is 5,850 mm.

What tyre size does the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX use?

+
The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX runs 185 R14 LT, 8-ply radial tyres on all four wheels. They are tube type. No Dost Strong trim, including the LX, offers tubeless.

Use Case

Is the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX worth buying for long-shift operations?

+
Yes, and that is its purpose. The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX is the only Dost Strong with air conditioning, which makes ten to twelve hour shifts through summer far easier on a driver. That directly affects alertness and retention.

Is the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX good for last-mile city delivery?

+
It works well, though it may be more truck than you need for it. The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX has power steering and a 5,850 mm turning radius for tight lanes, but on short routes with rotating drivers the cheaper LS gives the same capability without the AC premium.

Can the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX carry construction material?

+
Yes, within the rated payload. Dense material such as cement or tiles will bring the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX to its weight limit before the deck fills, so load by payload rather than by deck volume.

Mileage

What is the real-world mileage of the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX?

+
Ashok Leyland claims 19.6 kmpl for the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX, with 20 to 22 kmpl on the highway. In loaded city traffic, plan for the mid to high teens.

Does the air conditioning reduce the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX mileage?

+
Slightly. Running the AC compressor draws engine power, so a hard-worked Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX with the AC on returns marginally less than an LE on the same route. The difference is a fraction of a kilometre per litre.

How far can the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX travel on a full tank?

+
The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX holds 40 litres. At the claimed 19.6 kmpl that is close to 780 km, and at a realistic loaded city figure of 16 to 17 kmpl it is around 650 km.

Reviews

How reliable is the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX?

+
The Dost platform has been in production since 2011, and the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX uses proven mechanicals. Complaints cluster around cabin equipment rather than engine or gearbox failures. The five-year, two-lakh-kilometre warranty covers the window most first-time buyers plan for.

Is the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX cabin comfortable for long drives?

+
More so than the other trims. The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX has a D+1 day cabin with air conditioning, a sliding and reclining driver seat, a driver information display, a mobile charging point and a lockable glove box. It has no arm rest and no sleeper provision, so it suits long day shifts rather than overnight hauls.

What is the difference between the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX and the Dost+?

+
The Dost+ is a larger truck, with a 2,805 kg GVW, 1,500 kg payload and a 70 hp tune of the same 1,478cc engine. The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX carries less but costs less and turns tighter. They are different trucks, not trim levels of one.

Does the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX come with air conditioning as standard?

+
Yes. The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX is the only trim in the Dost Strong range with factory-fitted air conditioning. The LE and LS variants do not offer it.

Price

What is the on-road price of the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX?

+
The estimated on-road price of the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX is ₹8.9 lakh to ₹9.5 lakh, against an ex-showroom figure of about ₹8.40 lakh. Road tax, registration, first-year commercial insurance, permit and fitness add ₹55,000 to ₹1.1 lakh. Delhi and Haryana sit at the low end, Maharashtra and Kerala at the high end.

How much more does the Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX cost than the LE and LS?

+
The Ashok Leyland Dost Strong LX is about ₹45,000 above the LE and ₹25,000 above the LS at ex-showroom. The step from LS to LX buys the air conditioning. The step from LE to LS buys power steering.
