Truck Under 10 Lakh Review

Tata Ace Gold - the safest start

Rs 4.50 lakh to Rs 6.69 lakh for 710 kg at 1,510 kg GVW, in diesel, petrol and bi-fuel.

Nothing here is easier to own than the Ace Gold. Spares are cheap, every district has a mechanic and resale is predictable. If your loads touch a tonne, buy a pickup instead.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco Cargo - the cheapest way to carry 900 kg

Rs 5.39 lakh to Rs 6.60 lakh, 920 kg payload, 1,540 kg GVW, a 1,197 cc K12N petrol engine making 60.5 kW, about 73 PS. Petrol returns 16 to 17 km/l, factory CNG 20 to 21 km/kg.

More payload than the Ace Gold for similar money, and Eeco Cargo is a van, so cargo stays dry and locked. Take the CNG variant. On petrol the running cost undoes the low price within two years.

Mahindra Supro Profit Truck Mini - most gross weight in its class

Rs 5.72 lakh to Rs 6.38 lakh, 800 kg payload, 1,802 kg GVW.

The highest GVW of any mini truck here, so less time overloaded and fewer fines. I would take the Supro Profit mini truck over the Ace Gold if your loads are dense. Tata still wins on service reach.

Mahindra Veero - best value in the band

Rs 7.82 lakh to Rs 8.80 lakh buys 1,550 kg of payload at 3,000 kg GVW, from an 80 HP engine returning up to 18.4 kmpl.

1,550 kg at 18.4 kmpl beats everything near this price on payload per rupee and on fuel. If your loads are over a tonne, take the Veero and stop looking.

Tata Intra V30 - the pickup with the deepest service network

Rs 8.31 lakh to Rs 9.21 lakh, 1,300 kg payload, 2,565 kg GVW, 69 hp and 14 kmpl.

The Veero carries 250 kg more for less money, so on paper the Intra loses. Buy the Intra V30 anyway if you are far from a Mahindra workshop. Service density is why it sells.

Eicher Pro X Diesel - the longest deck under Rs 9 lakh

Rs 8.85 lakh for 1,358 kg of payload at 2,995 kg GVW, an 80 hp engine and a 10 ft load deck.

Ten feet of deck at this price is unusual. Buy this Pro X Diesel when your cargo fills the floor before the axle. For dense loads the Veero or Bada Dost carries more weight.

Tata Intra V50 Gold - most powerful pickup under Rs 10 lakh

Rs 9.14 lakh for a 1,497 cc four-cylinder diesel making 59.5 kW, about 80 HP, and 220 Nm, on a 3,160 kg GVW chassis with a 9.8 ft body.

The payload comes to around 1,500 kg, making the Intra V50 Gold a choice to consider.

Mahindra Bolero Maxx Pik-Up HD - best mileage at 1,700 kg

Rs 9.17 lakh to Rs 10.52 lakh for 1,700 kg at 3,460 kg GVW, from a 2,523 cc m2Di four-cylinder diesel making 59.7 kW, roughly 80 BHP, and 220 Nm, at 17.2 kmpl.

17.2 kmpl while carrying 1.7 tonnes is the best combination of this Bolero Maxx Pick-Up HD. Only the base variants stay under Rs 10 lakh. On 150 km a day the fuel saving alone beats the Intra V30.

Ashok Leyland Bada Dost i5 - the most payload under Rs 10 lakh

Rs 9.63 lakh to Rs 9.91 lakh, 1,817 kg payload, 3,490 kg GVW, 80 HP.

1,817 kg is the highest legal payload in the band. Buy the Bada Dost i5 if you are turning away 1.5 tonne loads. Do not buy it for city delivery, where 3,490 kg is harder to park and costs more to insure.

All prices here are ex-showroom. Add 9 to 13 percent for RTO, insurance, permit and fitness, so a Rs 9.63 lakh Bada Dost i5 lands near Rs 10.8 lakh on the road. Lenders fund 80 to 85 percent, so plan for Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh of your own money.
