India CV & 3-Wheelers Sales Grow 17% in January 2026
Strong start to 2026! Indian commercial vehicle and three-wheeler sales surge, driven by e-commerce, infrastructure, and surging e-rickshaw demand.

The Indian commercial vehicle market has started the new year on a strong note. According to FADA, combined retail sales for commercial vehicles and three-wheelers grew by 17.06% in January 2026. This surge reflects robust demand across logistics, infrastructure, and passenger mobility segments.
Three-Wheeler Sales Lead the Growth Story
The three-wheeler segment recorded exceptional performance. Total sales reached 1,27,134 units, an 18.80% year-on-year increase. Passenger three-wheelers grew by over 20%. The e-rickshaw goods category saw a massive 33.29% jump, highlighting the rapid electrification of last-mile delivery.
Commercial Vehicle Sales Grow by 15%
The CV segment registered 1,07,486 units sold in January. This marks a healthy 15.07% growth over the same month last year. All major categories contributed to this upward trend, signaling sustained economic activity.
SCVs Remain the Largest CV Contributor
Small Commercial Vehicles continued their dominance. SCV sales rose by nearly 15% to 65,505 units. The growth is driven by booming e-commerce, FMCG distribution, and urban logistics demand. Small trucks are clearly the backbone of India's delivery economy.
MCVs and HCVs Post Solid Gains
Medium Commercial Vehicles recorded the strongest growth within CVs at 18.87%. This points to improving industrial and regional freight movement. Heavy Commercial Vehicles also grew by a steady 14.62%, supported by ongoing infrastructure projects and long-haul transport requirements.
E-Rickshaws Continue Their Winning Streak
Electric three-wheelers are no longer a niche. Passenger e-rickshaw sales grew by 14.51%, with over 44,000 units sold. Goods e-rickshaw volumes surged past 7,600 units. The shift to electric in short-distance mobility is accelerating rapidly.
A Promising Start to 2026
January's strong performance sets a positive tone for the year. With double-digit growth across nearly every sub-segment, the commercial vehicle and three-wheeler markets are firing on all cylinders. If this momentum holds, 2026 could be a record-breaking year for India's mobility sector.
