The Indian commercial vehicle industry celebrated a landmark evening at the 17th Apollo CV Awards 2026. Held in Mumbai on February 26, the event marked a double celebration: the 17th edition of the awards and the 20th anniversary of Commercial Vehicle Magazine. Known as the "Oscars of the Commercial Vehicle Industry," the night honored excellence across the sector.

Industry Crosses One-Million-Unit Sales Milestone

The awards took place during a strong growth phase for India's CV industry. The sector crossed the major one-million-unit sales milestone in CY2025, driven by strong demand across freight and passenger mobility. The M&HCV and three-wheeler segments played a key role in driving growth. Industry discussions focused on the impact of the post-GST 2.0 environment and the 2026 Union Budget, which helped create a stable business outlook.

Tata Motors Dominates Multiple Categories

Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles achieved victories across several vehicle segments. In the Heavy Commercial Vehicles category, the Prima E.55S won Electric Truck of the Year. The Signa 4832.T took MAV of the Year, while the Signa 4832.TK won MHCV Tipper of the Year. The Signa 5532.S was honored as MHCV Tractor Head of the Year and also won the prestigious CV of the Year 2026 award.

In the Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicle segment, the Ultra T.19 won ICV Cargo Carrier of the Year. The LPTK 1416.K took ICV Tipper of the Year. In Small Commercial Vehicles, the Ace Pro Bi-Fuel won SCV of the Year, the Intra V70 Gold won SCVPU 2–3.5T, and the Ace Pro EV won SCV EV <2T. The Winger Plus was named People Mover of the Year.

Girish Wagh Honored as CV Person of the Year

Girish Wagh, MD & CEO of Tata Motors Limited, received the CV Person of the Year award. The honor recognized his visionary leadership, strategic expansion, and future-ready product pipeline.

VECV Wins CV Maker of the Year

VE Commercial Vehicles earned the CV Maker of the Year award. The recognition came for its Eicher Pro X pickup entry and IoT 4.0-enabled manufacturing capabilities.

Breakthrough Leader Award Goes to Bodybuilder Executive

Anil Mohan Kamat, CMD of MG Group, became the first bodybuilder executive to win Breakthrough Leader of the Year. This reflects the growing importance of advanced body solutions in the commercial vehicle ecosystem.

AI and Future Mobility Take Center Stage

Beyond awards, the event focused strongly on the future of commercial mobility. Kavan Mukhtyar from PwC India delivered a keynote on AI-led commercial mobility, discussing digital twins, software-defined vehicles, and AI-driven road safety. Industry leaders unveiled a white paper titled "Leap Of Commercial Vehicles – From Utilitarian To Intuitive," explaining how commercial vehicles will evolve into smart, connected, and intelligent mobility solutions.

A panel discussion titled "Building for the Next 25 Years, Not the Next 5" featured leaders from Tata Motors, VECV, Mahindra, and Ashok Leyland. They discussed long-term strategies and agreed that the industry now moves toward an AI-driven, integrated, and multi-modal transport ecosystem.

The 17th Apollo CV Awards was organized by Commercial Vehicle Magazine under Next Gen Publishing (Shapoorji Pallonji Group) in partnership with Apollo Tyres.
