Renault Fully Acquires Electric Van Firm Flexis from Volvo and CMA CGM
Renault goes solo on electric vans. Buys out Volvo and CMA CGM from Flexis venture. Full control means faster decisions as 2027 distribution deadline looms.

Renault Group has agreed to acquire the stakes held by Volvo Group and CMA CGM (Compagnie Maritime d'Affrètement - Compagnie Générale Maritime) in Flexis. The move gives the French carmaker full ownership of the electric light commercial vehicle venture. A new chief executive will now lead its next industrial phase.
Flexis Formed in 2023 as Three-Way Joint Venture
Flexis was established in October 2023 as a joint venture between Renault Group, Volvo Group, and CMA CGM. The arrangement reflected shared risk in what was then a fast-moving but uncertain market for electric light commercial vehicles. Volvo held 45 percent, Renault held 45 percent, and CMA CGM held 10 percent.
Renault Acquires Volvo and CMA CGM Stakes
Under the agreement announced on February 23, 2026, Renault will acquire Volvo Group's 45 percent stake and CMA CGM Group's 10 percent stake. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Consolidation Removes Multi-Party Governance Friction
For Renault, consolidating control removes friction inherent in any multi-party governance structure. The company gains clearer authority over one of its most consequential electrification bets. Renault's Trucks division is already committed to distributing Flexis vehicles from 2027 onwards.
Flexis Focuses on Electric Light Commercial Vehicles
The venture focuses on developing electric vans and light commercial vehicles for urban logistics. Flexis aims to address the growing demand for zero-emission delivery vehicles in European cities with tightening environmental regulations.
