ZF to Make Transmissions & Axles in New Coimbatore Plant

Global technology giant ZF Group is deepening its roots in India. It will soon start manufacturing critical components locally. The company will produce axles and transmissions at its brand new facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This move aims to better serve the fast-growing Indian commercial vehicle and construction equipment market.
ZF’s Coimbatore Plant Follows a ‘Local for Local’ Strategy
The new factory is a key part of ZF’s “Make in India for India and the World” strategy. By manufacturing these core components in India, ZF can respond faster to customer needs. It also reduces dependency on imports. The 10,000 square meter facility represents an investment of 20 million euros, showing a strong long-term commitment.
ZF’s Local Transmissions Target Efficiency and Savings
One focus will be producing ZF’s ErgoPower powershift transmissions locally. These transmissions are designed for machinery like wheel loaders. They promise up to 15% fuel savings and can boost productivity by up to 40%. Local production will make this advanced, efficient technology more accessible to Indian manufacturers.
Axles Built for Tough Jobs
The plant will also manufacture ZF’s Multitrac rigid axles. These axles are built for heavy-duty applications in loaders and construction equipment. They feature durable designs and wet disc brakes suited for harsh Indian job sites. Local production ensures better availability and support for these rugged components.
Solutions that Support Key Vehicle Segments
Beyond axles and transmissions, ZF showcased other key technologies. This includes specialized hydrostatic drum drives for concrete mixer trucks. It also features advanced brake-by-wire systems. These electronic braking systems are a step toward future autonomous operation for commercial vehicles.
Smarter and More Sustainable Transport
ZF Group’s expansion is about more than just manufacturing. The company aims to be a partner in India’s mobility transition. By localizing production, it can provide smarter, safer, and more efficient technology solutions. This supports the growth of India’s infrastructure and commercial vehicle sectors.
A Major Boost for Indian Manufacturing
ZF’s new Coimbatore plant is a significant development. It brings world-class component manufacturing closer to Indian vehicle makers. For the industry, this means access to advanced technology with faster turnaround and potentially better cost structures. It’s a win for “Make in India” and for the country’s automotive future.
