Blue Energy Motors Expands Electric Freight Network Nationwide

Blue Energy Motors is expanding its electric freight corridor network beyond the Mumbai-Pune route. The company aims to create a nationwide network covering strategic stretches of the Golden Quadrilateral and east-west, north-south highways. The focus is on ports, industrial centres, and high-density logistics clusters.
Mumbai-Pune-Delhi Corridor Targeted Within 12 Months
Blue Energy Motors plans to interconnect corridors between Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi over the next six to twelve months. The expansion starts with anchor customers operating out of ports and logistics hubs. The Mumbai-Pune route was chosen because it connects Mumbai's consumer centres, Pune's industrial belt, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority.
Regenerative Braking on Ghat Sections Improves Economics
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has steep ghat sections where 55-tonne electric trucks recover significant energy through regenerative braking while descending. This further improves operating economics for fleet operators.
Battery Swapping Enables Sub-Five Minute Turnaround
Blue Energy Motors operates battery-swapping stations at Khalapur, Talegaon, and Chakan. Swap times are under five minutes, ensuring uninterrupted freight movement between ports, industrial hubs, and warehouses. This is critical for time-sensitive logistics operations.
Battery-Free Trucks Slash Initial Cost by 40%
BEM sells electric trucks without batteries, drastically reducing upfront costs. Vehicle prices drop from approximately ₹95 lakh to ₹55 lakh (ex-GST). Batteries are provided as fuel at swapping stations, with users paying only for energy consumed. This brings electric truck economics closer to diesel from day one.
Chakan Facility Capacity to Triple to 30,000 Trucks
BEM signed an MOU with the Maharashtra government to expand its Chakan facility. Annual capacity will increase from 10,000 to 30,000 electric trucks. The company also plans to build a new clean energy truck plant in Maharashtra for ₹3,500 crore. A battery assembly plant is also in the pipeline.
LNG Truck Business Continues to Scale
While electric corridors are a long-term focus, BEM continues scaling its LNG truck business. Over 1,200 LNG trucks are currently on Indian roads. LNG offers lower emissions and around 40% lower per-kilometre costs than diesel on routes where electric infrastructure is still evolving.
Network Expansion Plans
Blue Energy Motors currently runs battery-swapping stations in Khalapur, Talegaon, and Chakan. In collaboration with HPCL and other oil marketing companies, it plans to extend the network to Bhiwandi and Tarapur. Similar corridor initiatives are being implemented at ports and industrial centres in Gujarat and northern India.
