The Government of Andhra Pradesh and Cargo Matters have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding. The project aims to create an integrated EV manufacturing and charging hub in the state. Total investment is Rs 100 crore. The focus is on electrifying heavy commercial vehicles to accelerate India's green freight transition.

Cargo Matters Submits Detailed Project Report to APIIC

Cargo Matters has formally submitted a Detailed Project Report to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation. The report seeks allocation of eighteen acres of industrial land for the project. The facility is designed as a multipurpose ecosystem.

It will have a dedicated manufacturing block for producing chargers. A specialised retrofit facility will handle electrification of heavy vehicles. A strong R&D unit will focus on validation and certification.

Project Aligns with Andhra Pradesh EV Policy 2024-2029

The initiative matches the state's EV Policy 2024-2029. That policy aims to establish Andhra Pradesh as a global centre for high-value electric vehicles and environmentally friendly transportation.

Major highlights of the project include employment generation. The plant is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs in the state. Another 3,000 indirect jobs will also be generated.

Strategic green infrastructure is a key component. Rs 50 crore of the total expenditure is set aside specifically for charging infrastructure. This will support regional heavy-duty electric corridors.

Quick implementation is planned. Full commercial commissioning is expected within 24 months of approval. Pilot operations are anticipated to start within 12 to 18 months.

Cargo Matters Founder Shares Vision

Umesh Padala, Founder and Chairman of Cargo Matters, spoke about the commitment. He said this MoU represents their dedication to practical decarbonization. He noted that while the passenger EV market is maturing, the heavy freight sector remains the final frontier.

Padala explained that the Madanapalle facility will provide fleet owners with a cost-effective pathway to electrification. This will be achieved through advanced retrofitting and dedicated heavy-duty charging networks.

APIIC Director Welcomes the Initiative

P.N. Mahesh, Director of APIIC, expressed pleasure that Cargo Matters chose Madanapalle for its upcoming hub. He noted that the project aligns with the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0. It strengthens the state's green freight vision.

He highlighted the strategic location advantages. Madanapalle is situated near the borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Bengaluru is about 100 km away. Chennai is around 250 km away. This offers excellent connectivity for logistics operations.

Mahesh reiterated that the initiative will generate nearly 1,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs. This creates meaningful opportunities for the region's youth.
