Gujarat Tops India Three-Wheeler Sales With 11.7% Share in Q3 FY26

India sold 2.15 lakh three-wheelers in the October–December 2025 quarter. Gujarat recorded the highest state-level sales at 0.25 lakh units. The state accounted for 11.7% of total three-wheeler sales across the country, according to data released by SIAM.
Top Three States in Close Contest in Three-Wheeler Sale
Gujarat edged ahead of Uttar Pradesh, which contributed 11.5% of national sales. Maharashtra followed closely at 11.2%. The gap between the top three states is less than one percentage point, making it one of the narrowest races among all vehicle segments tracked in the quarter.
Karnataka, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh Follow
Karnataka ranked fourth with a 7.8% share. Bihar posted 7.6%, a relatively high contribution reflecting the three-wheeler's prevalence as a commercial passenger carrier in smaller cities and towns across eastern India. Andhra Pradesh contributed 5.4%, followed by Assam at 5.3% — a notable figure pointing to the segment's penetration in the northeastern region.
Mid-Tier States Show Consistent Demand
Tamil Nadu posted a 5.2% share, while Kerala contributed 5.0%. Madhya Pradesh accounted for 4.3%, and Telangana followed at 4.0%. Rajasthan contributed 3.2%, Odisha 3.0%, Jharkhand 2.8%, and West Bengal 2.4%. The "Others" category accounted for 9.4% of total sales, the lowest among all vehicle segments, suggesting three-wheeler demand is evenly distributed across named states.
Western Zone Leads Regional Sales
At the regional level, the Western Zone led national sales with 0.68 lakh units in the quarter. Strong performance from Gujarat and Maharashtra drove this dominance. The zone's leadership reflects the concentration of manufacturing activity and urban commercial transport demand across western India.

Three-Wheelers Serve Dual Purpose in Urban Mobility
The three-wheeler vehicle segment serves both passenger transport and goods carriage. Autorickshaws operate as shared or hired transport in cities, towns, and rural areas. Goods three-wheelers handle short-haul and last-mile freight delivery in congested urban environments where larger vehicles are impractical.
EV Transition Gains Momentum in Three-Wheeler Segment
The three-wheeler segment has emerged as a fast-moving category in India's electric vehicle transition. Several manufacturers have introduced battery-electric variants for both passenger and cargo applications. Lower upfront costs compared to four-wheeled EVs have made them accessible to a broader base of commercial operators. State subsidies and preferential permit policies have contributed to rising electric three-wheeler registrations in states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of the western region.
