How Much Did 3-Wheeler Sales Grow?
Retail sales for the segment reached 1,29,517 units in October. This marks a 5.43% increase compared to the same month last year. The growth was even more impressive month-on-month, jumping 31% from September.
Which Sub-Segments Drove Three-Wheeler Growth?
The passenger and cargo categories were the main drivers of this positive trend. However, one key sub-segment faced a notable decline.

Passenger 3-Wheelers Lead the Charge
Passenger three-wheeler sales hit 69,937 units. This is a strong 16% year-on-year growth. It shows continued high demand for affordable shared transport options across the country.
Cargo 3-Wheelers Show Strong Momentum
The cargo segment also performed exceptionally well. Sales reached 15,239 units, a nearly 20% year-on-year increase. This underscores the vehicle's crucial role in last-mile goods delivery for small businesses.
Why Did Passenger E-Rickshaw Sales Decline?
Despite the overall growth, passenger e-rickshaw sales saw a 15.6% year-on-year decline. This drop was significant enough to note, even though the category showed an 8.9% improvement from September 2025. The shift in buyer preference toward traditional passenger three-wheelers appears to be a key factor.
How Dominant Are Electric 3-Wheelers Now?
Electric vehicles continue to dominate this segment. Battery-operated three-wheelers held a 54.51% market share in October. Here's the complete fuel-wise market share breakdown:

Was the Festive Season a Major Factor?
Yes. The broader 42-day festive period was very strong for the segment. Total retail sales during this period were 1,74,189 units. This is an 8.90% growth compared to the same festive window last year. Pent-up demand and festive cheer clearly boosted sales.
What is the Rural vs. Urban Sales Split?
The market's strength is balanced. In October, rural areas accounted for 54.3% of sales, while urban areas made up 45.7%. Rural sales grew by over 9% year-on-year, showing robust demand from the heartland.
What is the Industry's Outlook?
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President noted a swift rebound in sales. He described October's performance as being propelled by pent-up demand and festive sentiment. The data confirms the three-wheeler's enduring role in powering India's local economies.
