Japan's Kyokuto Kaihatsu Kogyo is making a bold bet on India. Through its fully-owned subsidiary Satrac, it has committed $100 million (approx ₹900 crore) for a seven-year expansion plan. The goal is to capitalize on India's growing commercial vehicle and mining industries.

Satrac Opens South Asia's Largest Trailer Plant in Sriperumbudur

Satrac has inaugurated a new flagship manufacturing facility near Chennai. The company claims it is the most technologically advanced trailer plant in South Asia. It features robotic welding arms and high-precision laser cutters. The plant can currently produce 800 units per month, with plans to scale to 1,200 units.

Satrac Targets India's Unorganized Trailer Market

The total addressable market for trailers, tippers, and cargo bodies is valued at ₹30,000 crore. Only about ₹2,000 crore of this is serviced by the organized sector. Satrac aims to capture this opportunity by offering engineered vehicles with low Total Cost of Ownership. The company targets a revenue jump from ₹550 crore to ₹1,000 crore in two years.

Satrac Plans Four More Manufacturing Facilities Across India

The seven-year roadmap includes establishing four additional units. Locations have been scouted in Jamshedpur to serve the steel and mining belt, Gujarat near Gandhidham for Western markets, Pune for the automotive heartland, and Bengaluru for a modern replacement plant.

Satrac Supplies to India's Top Commercial Vehicle Makers

Satrac's largest customers include Tata Motors and Daimler India. It also supplies to Ashok Leyland, Volvo, Scania, and Mahindra. In logistics, it provides specialized trailers to TCI, VRL, and Delivery. The company also manufactures mobile superstructures for Akash missile systems and defense equipment.

Urban Waste Management with Japanese Expertise

Satrac is leveraging Kyokuto's advanced recycling expertise to enter India's waste management sector. It plans to roll out an end-to-end collection and sorting system within a year. The mechanized garbage collection market is estimated at ₹1,500 crore. The company aims to address the entire chain from collection to final recycling.
