PM RAHAT Scheme Launched: Rs 1.5 Lakh for Road Accident Victims
Injured in a road accident? No money at the moment? PM RAHAT gives ₹1.5 lakh cashless treatment for 7 days. Here's how it works.

The Government of India has launched the PM RAHAT Scheme for road accident victims. It provides cashless medical treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for seven days. The goal is to save lives by eliminating delays caused by lack of immediate funds.
Cashless Treatment Up to ₹1.5 Lakh for Seven Days
Every eligible victim injured in a road accident will get cashless medical care. The cover is up to ₹1.5 lakh for a period of seven days from the accident date. This ensures patients can focus on recovery without worrying about hospital bills.
Scheme Covers Both Serious and Minor Injuries
For life-threatening injuries, the scheme covers care for up to 48 hours. For less serious injuries, stabilisation care is offered for up to 24 hours. In both cases, full medical support up to seven days is available within the ₹1.5 lakh limit.
Hospitals Get Reimbursed Through Motor Vehicle Accident Fund
Hospitals will treat those who have been in accidents without charging them up advance. The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund will pay back the money. This makes sure that hospitals get paid on time for the services they offer.
Scheme Integrates with 112 Emergency Helpline
The PM RAHAT Scheme and the 112 Emergency Helpline work together. People who are near the accident can swiftly call for help. They will find out where the nearest hospital is for immediate care.
Police Verification Required for Smooth Processing
Police need to confirm accident details within a set timeframe. This ensures treatment and claims can be processed smoothly. A digital system connects accident information with hospitals and health records to avoid delays.
Success Depends on Hospital Preparedness and Coordination
The scheme connects transport, health, insurance, and police departments under one system. Its success depends on how well hospitals are prepared to participate. The effectiveness of the 112 helpline in guiding victims to nearby hospitals will also play a major role.
