Sakhi Auto Service Launches Women-Only Auto Service in Bengaluru

A new women-only auto rickshaw service has been launched in Bengaluru. Sakhi Auto Service operates on a "by women, for women" model. They have 50 trained female drivers serving women passengers. This initiative aims to address safety concerns that many women face during city travel.
What is Sakhi Auto Service?
Sakhi Auto Service began operations in Bengaluru on February 14, 2026. Krishnavi Parekh, a 24-year-old entrepreneur, founded the service. It operates with a fleet of women drivers serving exclusively women passengers. The goal is to create a safe space in public transportation for women commuters at an affordable price.
Why Women-Only Auto Services Matter
Urban mobility is not the same for everyone. Many women in cities avoid travelling alone, especially during late hours. Concerns about harassment, overcharging, and uncomfortable experiences often limit mobility choices. When both driver and passenger are women, it builds trust and comfort. This also encourages more women to join the transport workforce.
Key Features of Sakhi Auto Service
The service has a transparent and fixed fare system. Prices start at Rs 50 for the first 2 km and Rs 20 per km thereafter. There is no surge pricing during rain or rush hours. The service operates from early morning until midnight, with potential 24-hour expansion based on demand.
Rides can be booked through the official website ride.sakhiwomen.in or via WhatsApp at 6361933364. A dedicated mobile application is under development to improve convenience and tracking.
Trained Women Drivers Ensure Professional Service
All 50 women drivers are between the ages of 21 and 40. They are professionally trained with valid driving experience. Additional guidance on customer interaction and safety protocols ensures professional behaviour and comfortable travel for women passengers. Plans are in place to expand the number of drivers.
Early Response Shows Strong Demand
A pilot run conducted before the official launch received positive feedback. Women passengers felt relaxed and confident during their journeys. They acknowledged punctuality, respectful behaviour, and transparent fares. Founder Krishnavi Parekh noted that people have already reached out wanting to book the service on a subscription basis for regular office commutes.

Sakhi Empowering Women Behind the Wheel
Sakhi focuses equally on driver empowerment and passenger safety. For some drivers, operating an auto can rebuild their lives after personal loss. For others, it represents a step toward financial independence. Parekh stated, "Sakhi is as much about driver empowerment as passenger safety."
Challenges and Future Expansion
As a newly launched service, Sakhi faces certain challenges. Expanding the number of autos and drivers will take time. Availability during peak hours and launching the mobile application are key priorities. Scaling operations while maintaining safety standards will be important for long-term success.
