Indian Commercial Vehicle Sales Jump 18% in October 2025

India's commercial vehicle sector is showing strong signs of health. Retail sales data for October 2025 reveals impressive growth, driven largely by a surge in demand for lighter trucks.
How Much Did Overall CV Sales Grow?
The total commercial vehicle retail sales reached 1,07,841 units in October. This is a significant 17.69% increase compared to October 2024. The growth was even more pronounced month-on-month, with a massive 49.52% jump from September.
Which Vehicle Segments Drove the Growth?
The story was a tale of two segments. While Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) saw explosive growth, the Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) segment experienced a slight contraction.

LCVs Lead the Charge
Light Commercial Vehicle sales were the undisputed star, climbing nearly 30% year-on-year. This surge points to robust activity in last-mile logistics, intra-city distribution, and small business commerce.
HCVs See a Dip
In contrast, Heavy Commercial Vehicle sales saw a 5.76% decline. This could indicate a temporary slowdown in long-haul freight or large-scale infrastructure projects, though the segment still showed a strong 29% improvement from September.
What Fuel Powers India's Commercial Vehicles?
Diesel remains the dominant fuel, but other options are gaining a foothold.

Is Growth Coming from Cities or Villages?
The growth is balanced but slightly stronger in rural India. Rural areas accounted for 51.4% of total CV sales, growing an impressive 25% year-on-year. Urban areas, with a 48.6% share, grew by a healthy 10.77%.
How Did the Festive Season Impact Sales?
The broader 42-day festive period was exceptionally strong. The sector sold 1,39,586 units, a 15% growth over the same period last year. Industry experts credit pent-up demand, festive schemes, and supportive government policies for this performance.
What is the Industry's Outlook?
The President of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) called October a "landmark month." He highlighted that stable fuel prices, good financing terms, and consistent freight flow are creating a positive environment for continued growth in the coming months.
