Chief Minister MK Stalin Unveils Foundation Plaque

Thiru MK Stalin, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Government of Tamil Nadu, unveiled the foundation plaque. Thiru TRB Rajaa, Minister for Industries, graced the ceremony. Leadership from Guidance Tamil Nadu and SIPCOT also attended. Mr Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, and several other dignitaries were present.

Facility Will Localize EV Battery Pack Production

The new manufacturing facility will help localize EV battery pack production. It will strengthen India's electric mobility supply chain. The project will create new opportunities for employment and advanced skill development in Tamil Nadu. This reinforces the state's position as a leading hub for next-generation automotive manufacturing and EV innovation.

Investment Part of Hinduja Group's September 2025 MoU

The investment is part of the commitments from Hinduja Group as per an earlier MoU signed in September 2025. Ashok Leyland, along with its subsidiary Switch Mobility, has already developed a vast range of electric commercial vehicles. The company has taken a lead position in the EV market.

Mr Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman of Ashok Leyland, said the company's journey has been closely intertwined with the growth of Tamil Nadu for more than seven decades. He stated that the groundbreaking marks an important step in their electric mobility journey. It reinforces their commitment to building a strong domestic EV ecosystem.

Shenu Agarwal Emphasizes Battery Pack Technology Importance

Mr Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, said battery pack technology is central to the future of electric mobility and energy storage. He noted that the facility will enable building advanced battery pack solutions with greater efficiency, safety, and reliability. It will support battery supply chain localization and contribute to developing specialized talent in high-technology manufacturing within Tamil Nadu.

Ashok Leyland Has Invested Over ₹9,000 Crore in Tamil Nadu

For over 77 years, Ashok Leyland has been deeply rooted in Tamil Nadu's industrial journey. The company started with its first manufacturing facility in Ennore in 1948. It has now expanded to nine facilities spanning over 800 acres. Over the decades, Ashok Leyland has invested more than ₹9,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. This has created over 37,000 jobs, nurtured talent, and contributed significantly to the state's emergence as a leading automotive and industrial hub.
