Delhi Adds 40 E-Buses, Unveils Revamped Azadpur Depot

Delhi's green commute push just got stronger. The city has added 40 new electric buses to its roads and unveiled a completely modernized Azadpur bus depot designed to serve as a key transit hub.
This move is part of a major effort to revitalize public transport and significantly grow the capital's zero-emission bus fleet.
A New Green Hub for North Delhi
The newly redeveloped Azadpur terminal is now a central point for commuters. It has been upgraded to handle 116 buses operating across 21 different routes. This creates a vital connection for North Delhi, making public transport more accessible and efficient for thousands of daily passengers.
Modern Amenities for Commuter Comfort
The depot is more than just a parking lot. It has been transformed into a commuter-friendly space. New features include modern waiting areas, shaded platforms, and a dedicated baby-feeding room. The facility also boasts enhanced security with CCTV coverage and sustainability measures like solar panels and bio-digesters.
Part of a Larger Electric and Modernization Push
The 40 new buses are part of a rapid expansion. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that her administration has added 1,400 electric buses to the fleet in just the last eight months. This aggressive rollout underscores the government's commitment to cleaner air and a modernized Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

First of Five Planned Depot Upgrades
The Azadpur terminal is the first of five depots slated for a major overhaul. The transport department is working in collaboration with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to modernize terminals at Nehru Place, Najafgarh, Mehrauli, and Narela. This partnership aims to bring metro-like standards and efficiency to the bus network.
A Clear Signal for Delhi's Transport Future
The launch of new e-buses and the revamped Azadpur depot send a clear message. Delhi is seriously investing in a greener, more comfortable, and reliable public transport system. This focus on modern infrastructure and clean technology is a crucial step toward improving the daily commute for its residents.
